HTC: 'most phones' launched in 2010 will get Android 2.2

32diggsdigg Now that Froyo has gone official, HTC has hurried to reassure customers that most of its 2010 phone catalog will indeed be riding Android 2.2 before the year is through. Prodded on the subject by Pocket-lint, the company has replied that it's starting out with the Desire and Incredible and working through other "hotly anticipated new phones," which should sound a reassuring note for prospective Evo 4G owners. A full list will be provided as we get closer to release, but don't wait with bated breath just yet, current indications are that the software upgrade will be coming in the second half of the year. By which time we'll all probably have a taste for Gingerbread.

Sony Ericsson X10 family to get Android 2.1 in 'Q4 2010'

The Xperia X10, one of the big mindshare-grabbing devices of the smartphone world, made us wait a cool six months between its November announcement and wide retail availability in April. One of the secret hopes while all that waiting was going on was that perhaps SE would surprise us and upgrade the dusty old Android 1.6 base installation to a fresh and creamy Eclair (2.1) or even a frosty Froyo (2.2) treat shortly after launch. Time to lay those dreams to rest, dear friends, as Sony Ericsson has come with an official schedule for upgrading the firmware on the Xperia X10 and its X10 mini and X10 mini pro siblings, which places the Android 2.1 delivery in the fourth quarter of 2010 -- and knowing the company that probably means closer to Christmas than Halloween. All we can say is you'd better really like that UX platform a great deal, because it'll be the only thing you'll be seeing for quite a while on Sony Ericsson's Googlephones.

Wii Controller Demo brings your Wiimote and Android phone 2gether, 4ever

Ryan Frawley still has a fair bit of work ahead of him, but his Wii Controller Demo app for Android sure holds an awful lot of promise. Available now for no charge (though a $1 paid version is available for those who dig his work), this here software allows Android users to create a Bluetooth link between their Wii remote and handset, and then log input information on the mobile's display. As of now, there's not a whole lot of value outside of Wiimote troubleshooting, but it's a few lines of code away from being able to act as a controller for gaming. Just think -- a Wiimote, your Android phone, an emulator, an HDMI output and four other nerds surrounding your television. Needless to say, we'll be keeping a close eye out for updates coming to this one.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G granted ultra-minor firmware update, too

The CLIQ isn't having all the Android over-the-air update fun today -- and unlike Motorola's little debacle, this upgrade looks like it's here to stay. The myTouch 3G has started receiving what appears to be the tiniest of cute little updates -- so tiny, in fact, that it fixes just one bug: a dodgy missed call indicator that wasn't showing up consistently. The bottom line is that you can't expect Android 2.0 or 2.1 here -- you'll still be at 1.6, and if you're intentionally not answering your phone, you may have actually preferred the bug anyhow. Droid's recent update boosts battery life?

That tiny over-the-air update that Droids have started receiving this week might be more important than just the Facebook issues it seemed to patch up, which really wouldn't come as much of a surprise considering the amount of testing rigor Verizon undoubtedly put that poor update package through prior to release. PhoneArena is reporting that users are seeing significantly improved battery life -- always a welcome change, no matter how good battery life might be to start -- and that the new ROM also makes some unspecified changes in preparation for that Android 2.1 support that Motorola has said we'll be getting. Let us know when you get this and keep an eye on your juice; we'll be doing the same.

Sony Ericsson promises Satio software update 'just around the corner'

Following a December firmware boost, users of Sony Ericsson's much-maligned Satio should start gearing up for another significant update that -- at a glance, anyway -- brings some pretty awesome new features to the table. On top of a promise that it'll "rectify some issues, [and] optimize performance even further," Sony Ericsson's high-end Symbian set gets WVGA video recording (though VGA remains the default), integrated picture uploads to Facebook and videos to YouTube, DLNA support, sundry "UI improvements," and firmware integration of the Facebook app that's already available on PlayNow. Not bad for a phone that Sony Ericsson could've easily abandoned in favor of support for the Vivaz -- but probably not enough to totally shake the phone's tarnished rep this far into the game.
