Android 2.2 coming to the full myTouch 3G range

TmoNews has it on good authority that the entire line of myTouch 3G devices -- the original, the 3.5mm jack update, and the Slide -- will get upgraded with Android 2.2, as evidenced by a fascinating shot of a pamphlet the site has posted. Users of the older devices will also get the same Genius Button functionality that was just rolled out on the Slide, along with the updated Faves app and full Microsoft Exchange support, breathing new life into a phone that first saw life as the Magic well over a year ago. We don't have a timeframe for the updates other than that they're "coming soon," so we'll keep an eye out.

HTC: 'most phones' launched in 2010 will get Android 2.2

32diggsdigg Now that Froyo has gone official, HTC has hurried to reassure customers that most of its 2010 phone catalog will indeed be riding Android 2.2 before the year is through. Prodded on the subject by Pocket-lint, the company has replied that it's starting out with the Desire and Incredible and working through other "hotly anticipated new phones," which should sound a reassuring note for prospective Evo 4G owners. A full list will be provided as we get closer to release, but don't wait with bated breath just yet, current indications are that the software upgrade will be coming in the second half of the year. By which time we'll all probably have a taste for Gingerbread.

Android 2.1 upgrade for Sprint's HTC Hero leaks out

Okay, so the Moment's Android 2.1 upgrade is official -- great. But what about the Sense-powered Hero? There's no firsthand word just yet other than the promise of a Q2 release, but there is a firsthand ROM (seemingly) floating around that gives us hope we'll here something from Hesse and crew any day now. Oh, yeah, and there is the cool part about being able to just grab the binary now and get your upgrade on without waiting, if you're as brave and impatient as we tend to be around here. Let us know how it goes, folks.

Motorola CLIQ XT update rolling out -- and no, it's not Android 2.1

The CLIQ's keyboardless cousin is getting a software update as we speak -- but unfortunately, it's probably not quite what you were hoping for. In fact, the T-Mobile Community board post officially announcing the CLIQ XT upgrade had to specifically call out the fact that this isn't Android 2.1, proof positive that there's a ton of interest in getting these things on something fresher than the 1.5 they launched on. Anyhow, the update still looks like a good one, promising to improve "overall phone performance" and tweak visual voicemail, Bluetooth, touchscreen accuracy, messaging, and camera issues. T-Mobile says you're welcome to wait for the on-screen notification, or you can manually check for the update in Settings and you should be able to pick it up. Good luck, folks.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G granted ultra-minor firmware update, too

The CLIQ isn't having all the Android over-the-air update fun today -- and unlike Motorola's little debacle, this upgrade looks like it's here to stay. The myTouch 3G has started receiving what appears to be the tiniest of cute little updates -- so tiny, in fact, that it fixes just one bug: a dodgy missed call indicator that wasn't showing up consistently. The bottom line is that you can't expect Android 2.0 or 2.1 here -- you'll still be at 1.6, and if you're intentionally not answering your phone, you may have actually preferred the bug anyhow. Let us know how your updates go, folks.

Droid's recent update boosts battery life?

That tiny over-the-air update that Droids have started receiving this week might be more important than just the Facebook issues it seemed to patch up, which really wouldn't come as much of a surprise considering the amount of testing rigor Verizon undoubtedly put that poor update package through prior to release. PhoneArena is reporting that users are seeing significantly improved battery life -- always a welcome change, no matter how good battery life might be to start -- and that the new ROM also makes some unspecified changes in preparation for that Android 2.1 support that Motorola has said we'll be getting. Let us know when you get this and keep an eye on your juice; we'll be doing the same.

Motorola CLIQ briefly gets firmware update by mistake, still Android 1.5

A few extremely lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) CLIQ owners were blessed with a new firmware update today, it seems, before the goods were unceremoniously yanked just minutes later. Phone Scoop reports that software version 1.3.8 -- which still runs Android 1.5, by the bye -- was available for just 15 minutes before Motorola took it offline. No one's coughed up a changelog yet, but users that have received the update have reported that it claims to improve GPS tracking and features a new option for assigning functionality to a double-press of the home button. For its part, Motorola's saying that "a test version of the update was mistakenly enabled" but isn't giving guidance on when we might see an official release -- so let's just make sure it has Android 2.1 next time it goes live, yeah?

Sprint's HTC Touch Pro2 gets official Windows Mobile 6.5 update

Sprint had promised a first-quarter update for its Touch Pro2 way back in January, and sure enough, it's delivered the Windows Mobile 6.5 boost right on time. It might not have as much punch now that we know everything there is to know about Windows Phone 7 Series, of course, but it's still a pretty big deal -- the Touch Pro2 remains one of the best Microsoft-powered phones you can buy in the States, and unlike AT&T's Tilt2, it launched with that grubby old WinMo 6.1. It's available now, complete with Sense "enhancements" and a variety of bug fixes -- so if you've got one of these bad boys in your pocket, it seems like a must-grab.

Sony Ericsson promises Satio software update 'just around the corner'

Following a December firmware boost, users of Sony Ericsson's much-maligned Satio should start gearing up for another significant update that -- at a glance, anyway -- brings some pretty awesome new features to the table. On top of a promise that it'll "rectify some issues, [and] optimize performance even further," Sony Ericsson's high-end Symbian set gets WVGA video recording (though VGA remains the default), integrated picture uploads to Facebook and videos to YouTube, DLNA support, sundry "UI improvements," and firmware integration of the Facebook app that's already available on PlayNow. Not bad for a phone that Sony Ericsson could've easily abandoned in favor of support for the Vivaz -- but probably not enough to totally shake the phone's tarnished rep this far into the game.
